Dell Inspiron Mini 9: Too cool for fans

Empfohlen von Josh Bancroft
Amazing - doesn't even need a CPU fan for that little Atom processor. Even at 1.6GHz. I LOVE the idea of NO moving parts!

I say that the Eee PC 901 I'm using has "no moving parts", but it's a lie, because it does have a fan...

AnandTech has posted one of the most thorough reviews of the Dell Inspiron Mini 9 laptop I’ve see to date. And buried on page 10 of that review is an interesting fact: the dell netbook ships without a CPU fan. The Intel Atom CPU is designed to be a low power chip, and as such it doesn’t generate as much heat as you would expect from a 1.6GHz processor. But most netbook makers still include some sort of fan over the chip which contributes to the noise you hear when the laptop is running.

Because there’s no fan or hard drive (the Inspiron Mini uses a solid state disk), there are absolutely no moving parts in the computer which means it runs quieter and is less likely to break if you drop it.

There are also a few other pictures of the Inspiron Mini 9 with its top off if your’e looking for places to stuff optional components lke a GPS unit or a Bluetooth dongle.
