How To Get People To Link To and Talk About Stuff You Write Without Being a Jerk

Josh Bancroft's TinyScreenfuls.com

I’m writing this up to help bloggers and other people who create stuff online (videos, etc.) get their “stuff” more visibility, by getting more sites to link to it and talk about it. Specifically, I’m trying to help people in my group at work, Intel Software Network, by sharing some of my experience and ideas, since I’ve been blogging for over 5 years. I’m by no means an expert, just sharing...

Everything costs money to build, I'm not arguing that. I fail to see why the American taxpayer should pay to bail out a bunch of corporations who are obviously not doing a good job innovating. Rewarding bad behavior only encourages more bad behavior. - Bjorn Stromberg
Of course. bjorn. If The big Three built small, fuel efficent cars with some nice sleek designs, we wouldn't be in this position in the first place becase our reliance on foreign oil wouldnt be as high, and people would be buying american instead of japanse and korean. On the otherhand The Big Three do employ a boatload of people that we'd rather have stay in work. Then again, Chapter 11 does have credible reasons for its use as a force for change as opposed to a bailout. - Roberto Bonini

Deconstructing Google Mobile's Voice Search on the iPhone

Waxy.org

I've experimented with audio transcription lately, but always with big, clumsy humans. I'd happily use cyborgs speech recognition software, but even today, automatic conversion of voice-to-text is still flawed. Naturally, I was intrigued when Google announced they were adding voice searching to their Google Mobile iPhone app.

Google's flirted with voice-to-text conversion in the past, with

★ iPhone-Optimized Google Search Results

Daring Fireball

On the desktop version of Safari, when you use the built-in Google search field, you get pretty much the same results page as when you go to google.com and enter your query the old-fashioned way. The toolbar search field is just a more convenient way to get the same results.

But that’s not the case on the iPhone. On the iPhone, when you use the toolbar search field (the one you get by tapping...

Just say it! Searching by voice with the new Google Mobile App for iPhone

Google Mac Blog

Posted by Bill Byrne, Mobile UI Witch, Google

Call me lazy, but sometimes I just don't have the time or the patience to type a search query on my iPhone. Well, no more excuses. With the new release of the Google Mobile App for iPhone, I can just hold the phone to my ear, wait for the tone and say stuff like "Indian restaurants." And just like that, I'm looking at a bunch of places that will...
